Lucas Benjaminh Krech

A new opera by David Little for solo Baritone, Soldier Songs performed at the Yale Arts and Ideas Festival in New Haven, CT in June of 2011.

The opera is structured around a series of arias about war. Beginning with a childlike view of war as a game we move through the tale of a man sent off to combat and finally to an old man lamenting the early death of his son.

The piece is very episodic and the lighting took that structure and ran with it providing distinct looks that evolved in sophistication as our protagonist's view and experience of war grew and evolved over his life.

The lighting vascilated between stark, stylized, and expressionistic to soft, direct, and human.
