I lit this installation for the 2004 Burning Man festival in the Nevada Desert.

Below are a picture of the finished project, as well as my initial VectorWorks Rendering of the lighting design, and the design statement I sent to my collaborators.

Foucault's Pendulum:

A merging of the Industrial with the Spiritual. A rebirth. An evolution.
The three goals I wish the lighting to achieve are:

A) Manifest the pendulum as a beacon from a distance
B) Create a threshold transition space
C) Create an inner sanctuary

Running up the legs will be lengths of El-wire. A different color for each direction. North is white. South Red. West is Blue. East is Purple.

At the top of the structure, all four colors will merge together to overlap and outline the top pyramid of the structure. There should be a mixing of the four colors used on the legs and a Yellow(or orange) as the main color on the top.

The effect. Near the base of the legs, the ELW will be somewhat washed out by the fluorescent lights. As your eye moves up the structure, the ELW will become increasingly visible and crisp culminating in the top of the pendulum.
