So there is a lot of talk in the theatre world about the system being broken, or theatre being dead. I find it curious that so much talk goes on about it that there is little time left to actually do anything to fix it. But some people are. George started his own company, John is working to transform the Equity Showcase Code, and thirteen playwrights get their work produced.
What are you doing to fix the break? What actions are you taking to see the reality you want manifest in the world? Because I for one see these and many other examples as very encouraging signs of a healthy working system. I want to know what else is going on.
My internet access is very limited these days. I hope to return to more lengthy posting soon.

From my point of view
I find a lot of people who want to “fix” the system are those to whom the system does not work for them, and they have no desire to change themselves to try to make themselves work in the system.
Granted, I am not your traditional “theatre” artist; I am not stuggling to get a role to create art, I am not looking for a chance to design, nor I am a playwright desperate to get my play produced.
I think there are perhaps too many people and too few opportunities because the market is flooded.
Now, what I find is amazing that among the flooded market there are those with such a strong passion for the work, people with that need to create art to complete themeselves – these people go out to create the opportunities they are not finding themselves.
This is why I like working with artisits – their fire.
That and I like saying “Go”.
I like saying “Go” a lot.

Back to a show.

Suddenly my memory of Midsummer takes on a whole new dimension. Hee . . .
I agree that the market is flooded. There is a joke that everyone in New York not driving a cab is a Lighting Designer. Its not easy. But then that is in many ways a benefit. It forces you to get good, really good, really quickly. Deep end of a shark pool and all that. I actually enjoy the cometition, as frustrating as it may be.
